Why is it so hard to kick a bad habit?
The reason is because the long term negative effects of that habit doesn’t become visible until months, or even years of accumulation.
If your face withers up immediately after just one smoke, then I am sure you would drop that cigarette right away. If your belly instantly becomes twice as round after having one donut, then making the choice to cut out sweets would be a no brainer.
The point is, because the effects are not immediately felt, we keep on smoking that cigarette, having that donut, until one day you look in the mirror in shock not knowing what hit you.
The same can be said when it comes to creating good habits. Because having one clean meal doesn’t immediately help you lose 10 lbs, it becomes very difficult for most people to stick with healthy eating habits. Similarly you don’t get that “toned” appearance after just one or two workout, it makes waking up early in the morning to hit the gym that much more difficult.
But if you are able to stick to making small little changes that are manageable, then the positive effects of those changes will start to build and compound and create huge changes down the road.
So here is the story of our client, Annie. I clearly remember that we spoke on the phone at least 4 times before Annie finally committed to coming in to try us out.
And I don’t blame her. Like a lot of people we have helped. Annie had gone through phases of starving herself, only following a certain diet, to not caring and eating everything in sight.
She has had periods of working out everyday, to periods of not even remembering when it was the last time she got off the couch.
What she was really looking for is a program that will help her find the balance and a routine that she loves.
Since Annie joined Crux Fitness, she has lost 30lbs so far in 7 months.
Annie decided to build up small little positive habits over a longer period of time so that she can finally get the long lasting and sustainable results that she has looked for.
Over the 7 months, we have helped Annie to focus on 3 things:
- Find an exercise routine that she loves (Our semi-private personal training program worked for her.)
- Find a way of eating that can get her the result that she want and can easily become part of a sustainable lifestyle. (Our customized nutrition coaching helped her find the best strategy that works for her.)
- Once we have helped Annie determine that approach that she knows can work for her. She stopped consuming new information and started implementing. One small change at a time, until all the small changes adds up to a 30 lb weight loss.
Congratulations Annie!
