September has arrived! Some of you may be heading back to school, your kids may be starting a new semester (or not…due to the BC Teacher strike) or you might just be continuing on at your daily job. BUT it’s a new season and it’s THE BEST TIME to start working on your health. You don’t need to wait until Jan to start setting resolutions, take action now. There will always be reasons why you should wait to start a fitness program, if you don’t take action, you will just keeping on waiting forever.
I remember I also first decided to begin my fitness journey during the fall/winter season a few years ago. School was stressful and walking around the freezing campus just wasn’t fun. I dragged my butt to classes and spent the first half of the term eating banana bread and drinking hot chocolate literally every single day. It shouldn’t have been a surprise when I noticed that I gained a few pounds. It was then that I decided I couldn’t go on like that and needed to adjust my habits.
Fitness can be overwhelming at times, so I’m here to help you start with small simple changes. Being healthy is important physically, but also mentally. Fitness is not a punishment, but a reward. You are a powerful person and should celebrate the fact that you have the choice to better your health.
So this week’s challenge is to begin by renewing your mind. Every morning, as you get ready or as you leave the house, look in the mirror and say a short positive sentence to yourself, out loud. Think about how you want your day to run and tell yourself you can do it.
Examples of what to say:
- “I will make healthy choices today.”
- “I am confident.”
- “I am good enough.”
- “I will ace my presentation today.”
- “I am dedicated”
- “I am a great father/mother/sister/brother/friend.”
This may seem silly at first, but our words have power and when we declare things out loud we will start to believe them. Our thoughts become our reality, so take 10 seconds a day to speak what you want into existence!
